No more Explore Feed on Facebook

No more Explore Feed on Facebook

Facebook said that it is over with the Explore Feed feature.

In a blog post yesterday, Facebook head of news feed, Adam Mosseri wrote:

We constantly try out new features, design changes and ranking updates to understand how we can make Facebook better for everyone. Some of these changes—like Reactions, Live Video, and GIFs— work well and go on to become globally available. Others don’t and we drop them. Today, we’re ending one of those tests: the Explore Feed.

Old News Feed is coming back

Head of news feed, Adam Mosseri, wrote that people don’t want two separate feeds. Facebook is constantly exploring new options, and changes it’s features in order to make users happy. Some changes are good, and some are not, because of that it is important to listen to people’s feedback. Facebook will end it’s experiment with the Explore Feed: surveys showed that users are not satisfied with having two feeds.

Why did Facebook start with the Explore Feed option?

“To understand if people might like two separate feeds, we started a test in October 2017 in six countries.”

Facebook had been receiving complains about the old News Feed, people had wanted to see more from friends and family. They didn’t want to read so many business posts and ads. That is why Facebook made the alternative feed in October 2017 in six countries.

“We think our recent changes to News Feed that prioritize meaningful social interactions better address the feedback we heard from people who said they want to see more from friends and family. Those changes mean less public content in News Feed like posts from businesses, brands, and media,” Mosseri wrote.

Back to old Home page

After a few months of Explore Feed option, it is clear that it was a bad decision. Survey showed that having two feeds is not a good plan, and that is why Facebook decided to bring back the old News Feed. Users don’t like two feeds because it is complicated to see all posts they are interested in. Companies don’t like two feeds because their posts are now seen by far less number of Facebook users. Everybody are happy because they will get their old Home page back!

It is just the matter of time when we will get new (“old”) Facebook update. 🙂
